Cleaning and X-Ray
Regular cleaning should be performed once every six months to maintain optimal dental health. Many people put off visiting the dentist until something is wrong. Don’t wait until you have tooth pain to stop in to our office! By scheduling regular visits, you can receive the preventative care necessary to avoid many oral health problems. Here is what you could expect from a normal cleaning:
- An examination of your teeth and gums
- Tartar scaling
- Tooth polishing
The average cleaning takes around 30 minutes. By scheduling this visit once every six months, you can drastically decrease your risk of developing gum disease. During the examination, your dentist can spot potential trouble spots in your teeth or gums and work with you to develop a treatment plan that addresses the problems before they become more severe issues. During your examination, your dentist may determine that an x-ray is necessary to give an accurate diagnosis. X-rays allow your dentist to see problems that are not visible to the naked eye, and to catch things like bone loss, early tooth decay, and infection before they get too serious. X-rays are not always necessary, but because they can help your dentist spot problems well in advance compared to visual inspections, they may recommend them after performing an initial examination. Most people will only need dental x-rays every few years as long as they are taking care of their teeth at home and visiting their dentist for their regularly scheduled six-month checkups.
