Here are five ways to care for your dental health when you’re sick.
1. Don’t Let Your Hygiene Slip
We get it. It’s easy to just say “blah” and forget that you have self-priorities. You’re sick, right? It’s the one time you’re allowed to be lazy.
But that’s not true. Keep brushing your teeth when you’re sick–the same way you make sure to cover your mouth when you cough and sneeze.
2. Choose Cough Drops Without Sugar
When you’re sick, it’s tempting to go for the sweetest choice for cough drops. After all, cough drops don’t taste wonderful.
But you’ll be doing yourself a whole lot of good to skip the sugar laden cough drops and ensure your dental health.
3. Clear Your Mouth out After You Vomit
Now this one’s a no brainer, and it’ll make you feel better too. Get rid of the vomit taste in your mouth!
But actually, don’t brush right away. Your teeth are coated in acid. You might actually damage them if you don’t wait a bit. So simply swish and spit.
4. Stay Hydrated
This is something you should be doing anyway. But it can help prevent your contracting dry mouth — and you’ll feel tons better if you don’t have dry mouth.
5.Drink Water Instead of Sports Drinks
Sports drinks can be good for hydration, but don’t abuse them–especially if they’re sugar laden.
If water’s a bit too boring, tea’s a great alternative that can help improve your mood as well. Again, avoid the sugar, and avoid lemon too, because its acidity can be bad for your mouth.
